Excellent, I loved it. It was totally not what I had expected. I made the mistake of thinking this was a typical romance. A white women and an Indian brave fall in love. I was so very wrong, this story was so much more than that.Yes, the two main characters do love each other deeply and do end up together at the end but it's truly a story of how they get there and what they had to go through. These two people truly HATE each other at the beginning. It's not just typical annoyance stuff that occurs in most romance novels. Their hatred is deep and totally justified. Initially, I did not understand why Loretta hated and feared Hunter so much. I didn't understand why she just didn't give in since she would love him eventually. This is where the author does such a great job of developing the characters. I actually felt Loretta's fear and hatred and the turmoil that both characters felt whenever they experienced the slighted bit of kindness for the other. At times Hunter did things that got him what he wanted with no consideration for what Loretta wanted or how she felt. This is not how a typical hero acts, but it is incredibly human and believable.
There were sections where my heart actually ached for Hunter and Loretta (don't get me started on Amy). There was no teen aged angst in this book, the hurt and betrayal were both very real.
When I finish most novels there are scenes that I would change or dialogue that I would modify. Not so in this novel. I wish that at times it was happier, but not sure that would have made it better. Again, what the characters faced was real and very difficult.

I come back to this novel time and again because of the ability to see love overcome such adversity, hatred, violence, sadness and cruelty. And to be rooted in history, to learn the ways of the world then, I continue to hold Hunter and Loretta forever in my heart. They pave the way for forgiveness and new beginnings in its purest form. The Comanche culture is beautiful and 's. Anderson honors the voices of all in her storytelling. I again finish my reading with great sorrow and gladness.
LOVE this book! Most books have wishy washy Indian main character. Get real lol! Hunter, in this book, shows humor and caring but definitely not a watered down warrior. Only other series I've read that has a believable Indian character is Janelle Taylor's Grey Eagle Ecstasy series.
I loved Annie's Song so much that I had to read another of Catherine Anderson's novels. Comanche Moon did not disappoint! Another intensely emotional story, it is not for the faint of heart. Catherine Anderson goes further than the typical romance book...beware that both of her novels that I have read so far have violence, rape, sex and heart stopping moments. I love how intense they are and how involved I become. Her talent shows in how much I come to care for the characters and what happens to them. This is probably my first novel about American Indians, so it is not a natural go to topic for me. I decided to give it a chance anyway and I am very glad I did. What a amazing tale of loss, love, betrayal and passion. A really powerful and beautifully written novel!
"Comanche Moon" is the story of Loretta, orphaned seven years prior when Comanche's killed her parents, and Hunter, a Comanche. Hunter has suffered loss in his life and isn't looking for love. However, an ancient prophecy has him kidnapping Loretta and trying to make her his bride in order to break the curse. There are moments that made me laugh and moments that made me cry. One of the most touching scenes (in my opinion) actually occurs between Hunter and Amy (Loretta's little sister). Hunter rescues Amy from Comancheros. The scenes are very vivid and make you feel as though you are a fly on the wall witnessing. I'm looking forward to reading Amy's story in "Comanche Heart".
The imagery is beautiful and vivid and Mrs. Anderson brings forth a wealth of information about the Comanche people. This book is beautifully written. The only thing that kind of bothered me (and the reason for four instead of five stars) is my agreement with some other reviews that the hero puts up with more than he should have to. I understand having some conflict and I like it when the hero has to work just a little to get the heroine to fall in love with him, as opposed to her just falling right off the bat. But sometimes I just flat got frustrated with Loretta. She fought Hunter tooth and nail, even after she realized that she was in love with him. This made it feel as though the book got drug on a bit unnecessarily. Overall, though, a really good book that will leave you with a smile on your face.
I found this title on a list of top western romances and so had great expectations as CM was number three in the list! I like books with well developed characters and realistic story lines, and so, by the first quarter of the book I was very excited to think this was the intent of the author. However, half way thru, my excitement turned to dread and almost three quarters into the story, I couldn't wait for it to end already. The MAJOR issue with this novel is the joylessness of it all. Thru the hundreds of pages of pain and conflict Hunter and Loretta live thru, their moments of happiness (I think there was two) are glossed over a few pages. Hunter was amazing, but Loretta... If that woman ran away one more time...!!!!! She was so frustrating and inconsistent and irritating after she got her voice back. Ms. Andrson should hv kept her mute the entire book! Even though I struggled to finish this book, I was intrigued by Amy and Swift Antelope. But after reading the reviews for that book, I realized I could not waste another $7.99 reading about another loving, amazing man being reject for 400 pages by a misguided woman.
