This is actually a 4.5 star rating.I like the writing style of the author. It is clear that she has taken the time to research. The story is set during the time of the American Revolution and focuses on the English, France and English Channel side.
The story is told from two POV's, Claire's and Simon's. The switch is pretty frequent, so you get to see inside of the minds of both characters, which I like.
Claire has her demons. After her mother's death, her father sends her to Ursuline nuns to be taken cared of. She is considered a wild child and frequently gets in trouble. One of her decisions sets the tone for the rest of the story. At the risk of giving too much away, she takes it upon herself to atone for her mistake by becoming a nun.
Simon also has a past that he wants to forget. Born out of wedlock, his father is well to do, but does not give him the title that he could have had if he was born from a real union. His father's death leaves him with money but no title. Simon uses that money to fund a ship and he becomes a privateer.
Claire's father has role in this story as well. After his wife's death Jean Donet takes to the seas and becomes a pirate. He visits Claire once in awhile, but never tells her about his profession. When Claire becomes of age, he arranges a marriage to her and a lawyer.
The reason I gave this 4.5 half stars was because I wanted to see more antagonists and a little more of Claire's wild side. I feel that she only had one episode after meeting Simon(for the second time) and then she mellowed out. I needed more of that! But other than that this was a pleasure to read. I would like to read more from this series and that of Claire's and Simon's children.

To Tame the Wind Donet Trilogy Book 1 and Agents of the Crown prequel Regan Walker 9780692401729 Books Reviews
Regan Walker has penned a delightful tale set in both England and France during the American Revolutionary War. It features a lovely Frenchwoman and a daring British Sea Captain.
Claire Donet is set to take her vows as a nun but before she can do so she is kidnapped by a handsome English Captain, one she remembers from a masquerade years earlier. She is taken aboard an English ship headed to the British Shores.
Simon Powell plans on exchanging Claire for his crew who have been captured by Claire’s father, a French privateer assisting the American Colonists in the war. He is struck by Claire’s beauty and he is surprised to discover her vow to become a nun.
Claire is not a spoiled French miss. She is a deep character, suffering from guilt. She has also been kept in the dark concerning her father’s profession. In London, she blooms, and realizes that a life in the cloister is not for her but how can she make a life with Simon who is her father’s enemy?
Simon is a good partner for Claire, he balances her more impetuous emotional nature with calm rationality. Over time their relationship grows because they are both on a journey of self-discovery, especially Claire. Both have a fine sense of honor and loyalty too.
I am overwhelmed by this incredibly sweet, loving, exciting story! Two men, privateers, on different brides of the War of Independence. One French, helping the Americans, one English, on the side of King and Country! The Frenchman, Jean Court, is in his late thirties, he has turned his back on his late Father, a Count, for the love of a beautiful woman. Simon Powell, in his twenties, should have been heir to an Earl, however, he was born on the wrong side of the blanket! Their ships battle, Donet, takes a ship, and it's crew away from the Golden one, Captain Simon Powell. Simon must find a way to get his ship, and crew back, he decides to take the most precious item, Donet cherishes above all else! Then the fight truly begins! I absolutely loved this book. Can't wait to read the next one. It will be released this month! Yay!
I highly recommend! Thanks! Enjoy!

This story has been sitting on my to-be-read list for a while and I think that I had built up too much anticipation, so I caved in and read it in THREE days. To Tame the Wind is such a beautiful historical romance. This story begins with Claire Donet, a convent girl, sneaking away to the grand masquerade. After escaping into the darkness, she realizes that someone has followed her. Claire’s decision to allow a little girl by the name of Elise to follow her to the masquerade haunts her for years. Soon after returning from that dreadfully cold and wet night after seeing her fill of gowns and one certain Golden Eagle, Elise dies from a bought of pneumonia. Upon Elise’s deathbed, Claire makes the solemn vow to live out her life the way that Elise would have if death had not come to sweep her away to the heavens. She makes the vow to become a nun once she comes of age so that she can teach children. As she lay sleeping one night, someone climbs up her window and makes away with her, leaving a note behind for her father. This kidnapping makes her rethink everything that she has thought about the past. What will her final decision be when she is returned to her father?
I absolutely loved reading about Claire and Simon. Both of these characters are so full of passion and morals. My favorite character within this story is Lady Danvers though. Lady Danvers is extremely compassionate and wants nothing more than the war to end, allowing peace for the Americans, French, and British. She is kind toward the American prisoners by providing them with blankets and food. Her and Clare assist with their injuries and take care of the children. Another favorite character of mine would have to be Jean Donet. He was a pirate and then transitioned to a privateer working to bargain British soldiers in exchange for American soldiers. With his demeanor and the love he has for his daughter, I really enjoyed reading about his character.
I recommend To Tame the Wind to anyone who enjoys historical romance novels. This is a truly beautiful and amazing story and I could not put it down. In my opinion, the pace was steady, but fast. I enjoy reading books that do not linger on certain aspects or scenes, so that factor was wonderful. I also feel that this author does a superb job with character development and credibility. The history that revolves around these two characters is astonishing. I rate To Tame the Wind with five stars and look forward to reading the next in her Agents of the Crown Series.
