THE STORY: Dev Santos who heads the Shine Foundation which protects the descendants of the Psy who chose not to submit to Silence a century ago finds a woman unconscious and tortured. She has no memory of who she is but Dev suspects that she might be a Trojan horse sent to bring him and Shine down. Katya Haas was mentally destroyed by one of the Psy Council members. Her mind was reprogrammed to murder and Katya fears that Dev is correct and that he is the target. Desperately trying to regain her sanity and her identity, Katya is also attracted to the man that she may have been sent to destroy.

OPINION: I loved this book. It was deeply emotional and concentrated intensely on Katya and Dev. It was an intensely beautiful story of two people who cannot trust and yet end up falling in love. The story of what Katya's purpose was remained a taut and interesting storyline. I fell in love with these characters. Katya is so broken in the beginning of the story that I rejoiced as she struggled to take control of her own life. The story is so well written that even as I knew that there must be a happy ending somewhere, I was completely absorbed into the story such that I could not imagine how the story could end up on a positive note. Such an intense book that never faltered.

WORTH MENTIONING: The journey that this book takes is amazing. I ended up crying for about 50 pages because it was so emotional.

FINAL DECISION: I loved this book. It is one of those books I love despite and because it ripped my heart out.

CONNECTED BOOKS: BLAZE OF MEMORY is the seventh book in the Psy-Changeling series. This book can be read independent of the others in the series although Singh is no longer repeating the basic information about the world she has created so a new reader may not understand the relationships and rules involved.

I enjoy the Psy-Changeling series and if you have read up to book 7 I’m sure you do too. Some of the uniqueness of the first few books of the series has definitely worn off and the subplot of the Psy-Net collapse and the council is maybe not progressing as quickly as I would like but I always enjoy the love stories involved.

The story between Dev, leader of the Forgotten and the Shine group, and Katya a tortured psy whose silence has already been broken was the first look into how the Shadow Network is so much different than the Psy-Net. I loved these two together, even if Dev seemed like a heartless bastard at times I still always liked him. Katya has been through hell and might be a ticking time bomb that could destroy them both. I routed for them as a couple the whole time the ending was a little different from what I expected.

There is definitely something fundamentally wrong in the Psy-Net and it seems to be leaking out and getting worse. After getting a glimpse into what the Shadownet entails since it is different than even the Web of Stars it is coming together what might be the problem with the Psy-Net.

Honestly these are my solid easy reads between stuff I’m really waiting to read. I’m waiting for either the subplot to come to the forefront or get to the couple story I really want to read between Hawke and Sienna. If you are a fan of this series I don’t see any reason why this one wouldn’t be just as good as the others.
Honestly, this book really disappointed me. While I still like the world that Nalani Singh has built and the races she's created, those are the only reasons why I slog through these books at this point (and because there's a few questions I want answers to). I was hoping against hope that with a human protagonist we wouldn't have the whole "OMG! I must have sex with this person, right now!" vibe that seems to permeate these books, followed by the "You're MINE! I'll never let you go!"

Yawn.
