Kennedy Hunter, an American journalist, travels to Casablanca to interview The Torch, an Islamic rebel hiding deep inside the Sahara. He’s cunning, sleek as an eel and doesn’t make it easy on her. To meet him, she is pushed out of a small plane into the desert night where she spends the most frightening night of her life. A band of hostile Berbers pick her up and with them she treks the Sahara to his hidden location. From them she learns about ancient tribal customs. It is a world that is alien to her, a world of mysticism she knows nothing about. On her return, alone in the desert, she is confronted by Touaregs, the Blue Men of the Sahara, who are as fierce and scary as the deadly sandstorms she has to withstand. The Torch demands that she publish a manifesto and isn’t happy with her reporting. What ensues is a tit-for-tat, a game of cat and mouse that doesn’t end until she unravels the mystery that is The Torch and exposes him to the world.

This is a fun, fast paced adventure featuring a quintessential big-city female reporter. Kennedy is tough, smart, creative, witty and, of course, beautiful. The author brings Casablanca and Morrocco to life with wonderful descriptions of the people and landscape. The plot is creative and well thought out, moving along at a fast pace. I look forward to a sequel by this promising new author.

Ghosts of the Sahara Monique Williams 9780578124933 Books Reviews

This was an excellent read; engaging from the first page. Kennedy is an exciting female lead smart, funny, sexy and strong. She has an adventurous and brave spirit that is quite compelling. When Kennedy enters the desert, we are with her, experiencing the cultures, breathing the air and feeling her fear. Her drive and determination can be felt throughout her journey to not only uncover a story but to find the truth. And then, when we meet The Torch! How disturbing to find he's a man we love to hate.

The writer's knowledge of Casablanca is as exciting as the inside look into the world of international journalism. This could easily be the first in a series, and I for one hope that proves to be the case.
A page-turner! Ms. Williams writes from the perspective of an expert, having been a journalist in Los Angeles, Tidewater, and Atlanta. The portion involving Kennedy Hunter's sojourn in the desert is particularly gripping, and is highly descriptive and detailed. The same passage is also fascinating in the flight it takes to a veritable mystic level. It's also an informative read, providing a comprehensive treatment of North African culture and its peoples, even to the point of identifying and treating assorted Saharan winds.
I expected a romance with some adventure but this is a mature detective story that will keep you guessing and urging you to read into the wee hours of the morning. A girl is found dead in Morocco, an heiress disappeared and reporter Kennedy supposed to do an interview with a terrorist.. But the terrorist who abducted the girl has a history with Kennedy. He held her hostage too but were they lovers?
The writer had a career in journalism what made the journalism world in the book believable. And the story successfully steers clear of the stereotypes.
The book opens with a scene that reminded me of the movie (and the novel) "The Sheltering sky".
The exotic setting of Morocco were I holidayed 10 years ago was the reason for buying the book. It turned out to be a great story.
I like the story
the story will grab you - very exciting - great details.
This was a great read, loved her main character Kennedy, who is an intriguing international journalist in Casablanca. Like the fast pace of the plot, and descriptive nature of the book, it kept me wanting to read more.
What an imaginative and thrilling mystery. I found myself reading it every possible moment to find out what would happen next! This book is very colorful, entertaining and keeps you guessing! I didn't want it to end and sure hope that Monique Williams has more books in the works! I am a fan!
